Mia had a passion for helping others. Her friends, younger siblings, and co-workers knew they could always count on Mia to help in any way she could. Mia's mother, Bianca, affectionately recalls her daughter as being, "that girl". She lit up every room she entered with her warm smile and infectious laugh.
Mia was home from Tennessee State when tragically, she was involved in a fatal accident. What started as a fun night with friends ended with Mia being taken to the hospital where she was put on life support.
Sadly, Mia succumbed to her injuries and passed away a few days later. The one bright light from this awful situation was that Mia was able to donate her organs, helping others even in her death. The topic of organ donation was something Mia and her sister Leia had discussed before at length. When the time had come, Mia's family was honored to follow her wishes. We are all so proud of Mia for her selflessness.
The Mia Kanu Foundation was set up in Mia's honor to continue the work she started during her short time here on earth. The Foundation will primarily focus on giving scholarships to young women pursuing a degree in Veterinary Studies, supporting young women in their pursuit to play team sports, and empowering women to be their best version of themselves.
